Construction Designs and Permits in Toronto

For Toronto residents a permit is required for almost all residential projects, even for a new deck or fence. For basic home decorating projects, a permit is not required. Provided there are no physicals changes to the ‘structure’ of the home.

Commercial projects, new construction, addition or renovation, all do require a permit.

This applies to projects such as stores or restaurants whether located on a street, in a mall or in any type of structure. As well as any buildings intended for residential or commercial use or both.

Construction drawings must be submitted with the permit application. Interiors designers or architects are hired for their knowledge of design, codes and permits.
